Let’s face it, your pet is one of the most cherished things in your life. Whose hands you put their health into is a huge issue.  So, what exactly is a veterinarian and what do they do?  A veterinarian is a highly trained medical doctor whose goal is the health and well-being of animals. Veterinarians can tend to a host of health issues both large and small.  The services each veterinarian provides can differ quite a bit.

In the broad view, Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield is a full-service animal hospital and wellness center that provides advanced medical and surgical care for pets.  To be more specific, our philosophy is one called Risk-Based medicine.  We believe that the treatment for your pet and the vaccinations and procedures we recommend should be based on knowing the owner, the pet and the pet’s lifestyle.  One pet’s treatment may be vastly different from another pet’s.  For example, if you have an indoor cat, the treatment and protocol that we suggest will be different from another cat owner who has a feline that enjoys roaming outdoors.  Or, if your dog friend is elderly, its treatment is going to be quite different from the eight-week-old puppy or two-year-old canine down the lane.  What we also promise is that we will not try to sell you unneeded or unnecessary treatment for your pet.  This approach will lead to a happier outcome…healthy pets and happy owners!

Preventing or catching a disease in the early stages will help save you and your pet needless suffering and financial burden.  At Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield, our preventive programs include bi-annual wellness examinations, annual vaccinations tailored specifically to your pet’s needs, heartworm and parasite prevention and more in-depth testing as your pet ages (i.e. diagnostic blood tests and x-rays).  By focusing on wellness and preventive medicine from the very start, we can help your pet lead a healthy and happy life.

If you find your pet is in need of advanced or complicated treatments, we can handle it all.  In addition to wellness and preventive medicine (annual exams, vaccinations), we perform surgery, on-site laboratory services, radiology, ultrasounds, dentistry, behavior consultations, dietary and nutritional counseling and life stage care.  Life stage care is everything you need to take your pet from a puppy or kitten straight through their golden years.

At Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield, your animal is our utmost concern.  We can handle everything that may occur in your pet’s lifetime.  Let us help you make your pet’s life a long and happy one!
